Whether you’re making a quilt that’s large or small puckering fabric and fabric movement can be a problem. Martelli is in the business of selling innovative products that solve problems like this. That’s where the idea for the quilting hoop was born. This blog will tell you in detail what the quilting hoop does and why you should consider purchasing one.
What It Does
The quilting hoop was made to keep all your fabric in place without puckering or sliding when you’re sewing on a machine. The hoop itself is weighted so it holds down the fabric but is extremely easy to pick up or move.
How To Use It
When using the hoop you will place it under your sewing needle in the designated area you would like to sew in. Using the attached handles you can easily move the fabric around to create your desired pattern.
To use the hoop you:
- Lift your sewing needle
- Slide the cutout area of the hoop under the needle
- Place the hoop in the desired sewing area
- Flatten your fabric if necessary
- Begin sewing using the circular handles to maneuver the hoop
When you are done with the hoop:
- Lift your sewing needle
- Slide the hoop under your needle and pressure foot using the cutout area of the hoop
Hoop Sizes
The larger the quilt the bigger the hoop should be. For baby quilts and lap quilts, you should use the smaller 8-inch quilting hoop while larger projects like queen and king size quilts will require the larger 11-inch quilting hoop. They can be bought individually but you save money by buying the set of quilting hoops. The set includes the 8-inch and 11-inch quilting hoops.
Customizations
If the existing handles on the quilting hoops are not comfortable for you due to something like arthritis or shaky hands Martelli has found a solution for that. We made what we call our Comfort Control Handles. These sphere-like handles are ergonomically designed to lie beneath your hand for the most comfortable quilting experience.
To install them:
- Locate a 5/32 inch Allen wrench
- Unscrew the original handles
- Screw in the Comfort Control Handles
