ABOUT ME…ANDREA JOINER (teacher and designer of Rebecca template)
Since
I was just a young child, I was intrigued by watching my mother sew. I’d
sit by the hour and watch her set in sleeves, add zippers, sew in
pockets, add facings, you name it, she knew how to sew it. She taught me to
sew. I remember begging my mother for a needle and thread so I could
create something I was dreaming of.
I
couldn’t wait to get into home economics (I know I’m dating myself; I don’t
think home economics is even taught any more) to sew something really
cool!! Then to my chagrin, when I finally got into class, we made a
caftan!! Can you believe it? No sleeves, no zippers, no
buttonholes, no facing I was sewing all these things—I had mine done in the
first class. What a disappointment!
As
I got older I started sewing my own clothes, making draperies and window
treatments, I worked in a bra factory (that was an experience) for a short
time. I’ve done some upholstery and I’ve sewed doll clothes for a porcelain
dollmaker. That was the best job ever! I got to design
fashions and bring them to life, then watch as doll collectors lovingly
bought and added them to their collections.
There
have been many times I shared my love to sew and create with my mother.
We would pour over our fabric stash, (we loved them all); we’d look at
different quilting and sewing books to get ideas and inspiration.
We would go to quilt and craft shows together to see all that was new and
wonderful. We would sew different quilts and handbags; we shared happy
times and wonderful memories. I lost my mom in May of 2019; I miss her
terribly.
These
days my days of creativity includes browsing through many different magazines,
books, Instagram, Pinterest as well as many other places to find inspiration
for the creations that are in my subconscious mind.
andrea
gail designs is my opportunity to turn all those creative ideas into
reality. I offer patterns and templates, along with other pretty little
things, one-of-a-kind creations using various textures and colors, that I will
design and offer as finished handmade products. These range from art
dolls to handbags and totes to other handmade gifts or a non-gift—because
sometimes we all need a little somethin’ somethin’ “just fur cuz”.
My
hope is that my creations will spark something in you that will be meaningful
and memorable. I hope that someone you love or care about will feel the
same way about something you’ve found on my website that you (or them) just
cant live without. I hope to bring you inspiration and meaning to the
creative side women share when you are inspired to create something that you
will love forever.
When I’m not sewing and creating, I love to be
outdoors walking around exploring, I love to travel and experience new
adventures or I enjoy just sitting around the campfire appreciating an evening.
I have 3 grown boys, 2 grandchildren and one on the way.
Our Templates are made to make your cutting easier and more accurate. The no-slip material creates a vacuum seal and locks up to 32 layers of fabric in place. Most people feel comfortable cutting 8-12 layers without sacrificing the accuracy. If you don’t cut straight, you’re never going to sew straight and you won’t have a perfect quilt. Because the material locks your fabric in place, you just need to lay the template on your fabric and turn to make your cuts. No more measure-cut, measure-cut, measure-cut, etc. The templates, like our rulers, are cut on a laser machine, so we know they were made with 100% accuracy. They can help you cut out enough blocks for a king-size quilt in a matter of minutes. We’ve got tons of different shapes and sizes, so be sure to check them out.
